Brig. Gen. (ret.) Uzi Eilam has served as Director General of the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission and Chief Defense Scientist of Israel’s Defense Ministry, where he directed Israel’s research and development of defensive technologies. Throughout his career in the Ministry of Defense, Eilam has been central in negotiating closer technological and industrial ties between Israel and the rest of the world.
Earlier in his career, Eilam served as a battalion commander and later brigade commander in Israel’s paratrooper brigade. He and his battalion fought in the battle for Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War, and were among the first Israeli soldiers to reach the Western Wall.
After retiring from his IDF and government roles, Eilam became a Senior Research Associate at Israel’s Institute for National Strategic Studies, a leading security think tank. Eilam has published articles addressing defense technologies, European industrial & defense challenges and counterterrorism.
