We write as Jewish and pro-democracy Americans – shaped by deep memories from history of what happens when lawlessness reigns and the power of the state is turned against vulnerable people – to demand you speak out against the unchecked violence we are witnessing both in our country and on the West Bank.

In Minneapolis, a dedicated intensive care nurse and beloved member of his community was shot and killed by federal agents while lying unarmed on the pavement.

Thousands of miles away, in the South Hebron Hills, dozens of masked settlers – not themselves official state actors, but empowered by the policies of an extremist government – beat Palestinian civilians with clubs and burn the homes of families who have lived there for generations.

The through line is unmistakable: Violence goes unchecked when power is unconstrained, when those in authority fail to protect the vulnerable and when dehumanization replaces justice.

We’ve seen this pattern before. We know where this goes. We must speak out for those who can’t.
