Congress Must Reject Trump's Annexation Plan

Tell Rep. Hoyer:

The proposal released by Trump and Netanyahu this week is not a plan for peace. It's a blow to prospects for a viable two-state solution and it paves the way for Israel's unilateral annexation of the West Bank.

A strong statement of opposition by Congress will send a message that this plan is not a legitimate baseline for future negotiations nor a license for the the Israeli government to annex West Bank territory -- a move which would violate international law and dramatically reduce prospects for peace.

I hope you'll help send such a message by signing onto the Levin-Lowenthal letter currently circulating in the House. Adding your name is the best way in this moment to demonstrate your commitment to a just, viable and negotiated two-state solution.

Background

This week, the Trump administration released its long-awaited "peace plan."

As expected, the plan -- which was drafted without input from the Palestinians -- does not offer a viable path forward toward a negotiated solution.

Instead, it offers a green light for Israeli annexation of large portions of the West Bank -- a step which would doom Israelis and Palestinians to endless conflict.

In this moment, it is critical that Congress push back and help send a strong message that this plan does not signal a permanent change in the US position.

We are asking every member to sign onto the Levin-Lowenthal letter, which condemns Trump's plan and unequivocally states, "the Israeli government must not take it as license to violate international law by annexing all or portions of the West Bank."
