We write as pro-peace Americans who support the right of both Israelis and Palestinians to security and self-determination.

Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank continues to undermine the prospects for a viable Palestinian state – and its leaders are openly admitting this is their goal.

The UK has now announced plans to ban imports of goods from Israeli settlements and sanction companies and individuals that support settlement expansion. We believe US policy should likewise distinguish between Israel and settlements in occupied territory.

We therefore urge Congress to support restrictions on trade with Israeli settlements and targeted sanctions against individuals, businesses and entities that finance, facilitate or support settlement expansion.

These measures would allow the United States to oppose settlement expansion while continuing to support the security and livelihood of the Israeli people.
