For any questions leading up to the event, please contact Jasmine Gothelf Winship at jasmine@jstreet.org.

Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran soldiers who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories. They endeavor to stimulate public debate about the price paid for a reality in which young soldiers face a civilian population on a daily basis and are engaged in the control of that population's everyday life. Their work aims to bring an end to the occupation.

For the first time, Breaking the Silence is bringing US-raised former "lone soldiers" to share their experiences in the occupied territories with the American Jewish community. The speakers were all raised in the US before deciding to move to Israel and enlisting in the IDF. They come from Reform, Conservative and Orthodox backgrounds and served in the Occupied Territories in the last decade. Through a moderated panel and audience Q&A, they will share their unique perspective as both American Jews and former Israeli soldiers.

Ruth Ben-Artzi is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Providence College, Rhode Island. Professor Ben-Artzi has been a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania's Browne Center for International Politics and a visiting fellow at Sciences-Po, Paris. She has worked as a researcher at the OECD Development Centre, and she holds a PhD from Columbia University, New York and an AB from the University of Haifa, Israel.
