Back Door Channels: The Price of Peace

"It can’t be done."

"We don’t have a partner for peace."

"They’re bent on our destruction."

Sound familiar? We've heard this and more from skeptics of the current Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. But what if those skeptics knew that it has been done before?

In 1979, the Camp David Peace Accord and Treaty between Egypt and Israel flew in the face of naysayers who said it couldn't be done. Some said no Arab state would ever recognize Israel and others accused Egypt of of ‘selling out’ the Arab cause. The parallels between then and now are striking.

Join J Street Chicago for a powerful new film that goes behind the scenes at Camp David. Director Harry Hunkele documents the tension, showmanship, ‘final positions’, near walk-outs and horse-trading that initiated over 30 years of peace between Israel and its closest, strongest Arab neighbor - a peace that’s weathered the test of time from the Lebanon War in the 1980s all through the Arab Spring of 2011.
