Tell Congress: Oppose anti-BDS legislation that helps the settlements and harms free speech

As we speak, right-leaning advocacy groups are urging Congress to pass a hugely problematic version of the so-called “Israel Anti-Boycott Act.”

The legislation draws no distinction between Israel and the West Bank, effectively extending US legal protections to illegal settlements. The ACLU has also flagged major free speech issues, noting cases where the bill would penalize individuals and companies for exercising their First Amendment right to participate in boycotts.

While J Street has always been clear about our opposition to the Global BDS Movement, this legislation is absolutely the wrong way to oppose BDS. In fact, it’s just wrong, period.

    Tell your members of Congress:

Some in Congress are trying to slip language into must-pass appropriations legislation that would break with decades of bipartisan policy by extending US legal protections to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. These measures would penalize companies and individuals exercising their Constitutionally-protected right not to do business in or with the settlements. I ask you to let Appropriations Committee and caucus leadership know that you oppose such language from the so-called "Israel Anti-Boycott Act" (S.720) being included in any appropriations vehicle.
