The days since Friday have been a rare window of brightness amid weeks of bleakness. Israel and Hamas extended a pause in fighting in the Gaza Strip, allowing more aid to reach civilians. More than 90 hostages that were being held by Hamas have been released, after being held in fraught captivity for nearly two months, and in return, Israel moved to release more than 200 Palestinians, many of whom had been detained without charge.
