22 Americans dead, others missing as Israel goes to war against Hamas

Foreign nationals from around the world have been reported killed or missing in Israel, as the country’s leaders declared war against Hamas and the combined death toll among Israelis and Palestinians crossed 2,000.

As information ekes out from behind the fog of an old conflict made new, government officials from at least half a dozen nations are working to verify reports of slain, injured or missing citizens. There is less information about foreign nationals coming out of Gaza, where residents experienced a night of nonstop Israeli bombing.
