J Street Announces $200k Expenditure to Support NY Primary Candidates Nadler and Bowman

August 17, 2022

The J Street Action Fund today announced a total of $200,000 in independent expenditures in support of J Street endorsees Jerry Nadler and Jamaal Bowman ahead of next week’s New York congressional primaries.

“Jerry and Jamaal are progressive champions with a long list of accomplishments. Their strong support for Israel’s security sits alongside the leadership they’ve shown on protecting Palestinian freedoms, upholding international law and supporting a just and peaceful end to the conflict,” said Kevin Rachlin, Vice President of Public Affairs. “We know New Yorkers face a difficult choice next week, but the truth is that we simply cannot afford to lose principled leaders like Jerry and Jamaal. J Street’s national team and local chapters are proud to stand by both of them.”

The J Street Action Fund — the pro-Israel, pro-peace group’s independent expenditure arm — is partnering with allied progressive groups and will run digital campaigns with positive ads through to Election Day.

“This November, Republicans are coming for our freedoms. The freedom to choose. To marry. To vote for our future. Jerry’s fighting back,” a voice-over in the Congressman Nadler spot intones, before listing a long record of accomplishments.

The spot touts Rep. Nadler’s role in drafting voting rights legislation, protecting Planned Parenthood funding, co-sponsoring the Green New Deal, championing the Equality Act, securing New York subway funding, securing 9/11 first responder compensation and leading the impeachments of President Trump as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee.

The spot for Congressman Bowman highlights his ties to the local community. “He never forgot where he came from,” a voice-over notes, before touting his work investing in flood prevention, securing resources for schools and working on community safety and violence prevention.

“New York has a large pro-Israel, pro-peace community in both Jewish and Democratic circles, and it’s vital that our liberal values and nuanced, principled views around Israeli-Palestinian issues are reflected by our leaders,” Rachlin said.

The Nadler spot will run across Hulu, Pandora, Youtube and Meta platforms with the Bowman ad running across streaming platforms including ESPN, Vevo, MLB, NBC, CBS, ABC and BET. Both ads target a broad swathe of likely voters.
