Ambassador (retired) Alan D. Solomont is the Pierre and Pamela Omidyar Dean of Tufts University’s Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service. The mission of Tisch College is to ensure that every Tufts student acquires the values, skills and knowledge needed for a lifetime of active citizenship. Nominated by President Obama in 2009, Solomont served until July 2013 as the United States Ambassador to Spain and Andorra. As the President’s representative, Ambassador Solomont strengthened bilateral ties between Spain and the United States around issues of global security and economic cooperation. He currently chairs the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is married to Susan Lewis Solomont, and they have two grown daughters, Stephanie and Becca.
